For Not Wearing Eye Guards from DailySquashReport.com
October 16, 2011-
The men’s entries from Peru and Chile were disqualified
in doubles action at the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, for
reportedly playing without protective goggles.
Jaime Pinto and Maximiliano Camiruaga of Chile were disqualified in their match against Brazil.
Peru’s team of Diego Elias and Andres Duany was disqualified while playing against Paraguay.
It is not clear if the penalized players knew that a mandatory eyewear rule was in force.
Doubles competition in the Pan American games is the awkward,
small-court softball version, as opposed to the superior, large-court
North American hardball version featured on the ISDA Pro Tour.
The US men's pairing of Julian Illingworth and Christopher Gordon will
play Arturo Salazar and Eric Galvez of Mexico for the doubles
championship. Illingworth and Gordon beat the El Salvador and Paraguay
teams to reach the final.
On the women's side, Americans Maria Ubina and Olivia Blatchford beat
the Guatemalan team before losing to the Mexican duo of Samantha Teran
and Nayelly Fernandez.
