October 18, 2012 - North American hopes were shot down last night in first round qualifiers in the $70,000 PSA Netsuite Open, as American Chris Gordon fell in straights to Australian Ryan Cuskelly and Canadian Shawn Delierre was beaten by England's Chris Simpson in four.

In a mild upset, New Zealand's Martin Knight beat top-seeded qualifier Steve Coppinger of South Africa in an 80-minute four-gamer.

Matt Karwalski repeated his US Open win over higher-ranked fellow Aussie Zach Alexander, and Aamir Atlas Khan of Pakistan pounded out a solid win over Campbell Grayson of New Zealand.
