- The undefeated run by the US Women’s Team in the Pan Am Games came to a difficult end yesterday in the semi-finals against Colombia, when US #3 Lily Lorentzen was apparently forced to retire during the deciding match.

The Colombians will take on Team Canada, 2-1 semi-final winners over Mexico, in today’s gold medal championship.

Olivia Blatchford had dominated her Colombian opponent Silvia Angulo in the opening #1-slot match in a swift three games. Maria Ubina at #2 then lost a four-game battle to Catalina Pelaez, clearing the court for the deciding match between Stanford graduate Lorentzen and Anna Porras.

Lily apparently lost the first two games quickly before having to retire before the start of the third.

In the Canada-Mexico showdown, singles gold medalist Samantha Teran continued her Pan Am Games domination by crushing #1 Canadian Miranda Ranieri in 21 minutes in the first match on court. But Samantha Cornett leveled the match with a straight game win over Imelda Salazar, and Stephanie Edmisson put the Canadians into the finals with a decisive win over Nayelly Hernandez.
