- Top seeds Ben Gould and Damian Mudge advanced easily but the second and third seeded teams of Leach/Jenson and Walker/Chaloner both needed the full five last night to get through the first round at the $20,000 ISDA St. Louis Open.

Also advancing to this afternoon’s semifinals at the St. Louis Racquet Club was the team of Manek Mathur and Yvain Badan.

In final round qualifying play earlier in the day, it was Coleman/ Swanepool over Puertas/Dugan 15-11 in the fifth, and Khan/Ruth over McArthur/Roberts in a close three, by 15-14 in the third.

Greg McArthur filed this report on the first round:

Ben Gould & Damian Mudge def Jacques Swanepoel and Shane Coleman 3-0

Chris Walker & Mark Chaloner def John Russell and Greg Park 3-2 (15-14 in the 5th) - fast and furious match.

Manek Mathur & Yvain Badan def Imran Khan and Todd Ruth 3-1 -  Maneks hard hitting and Ivan's guile proved too much for their opponents.

Clive Leach & Matt Jensen def Preston Quick and Johnny Smith 3-2 - close match, quick paced with some fantastic winners from all players (Clive and Preston in particular).

Good evening of squash and hopefully a great evening in St Louis with the St Louis Cardinals being in game 7 of the World Series.

Today’s Semi-Final Matchups:

Mudge/Gould v Walker/Chaloner

Mathur/Badan v Jenson/Leach

Khan/Ruth v McArthur Roberts

Swanepoel/Coleman v Puertas/Dugan
