Leach/Jenson Suffer Major Upset In $20K St. Louis Doubles from DailySquashReport.com
Mathur/Baden vLeach/Jenson
October 30, 2011-
The #2 ISDA Doubles team of Clive Leach of England and Matt Jenson of
Australia was taken down in yesterday’s St. Louis Open semifinals
by heavy underdogs Yvain Baden of Switzerland and Manek Mathur of India.
Mathur and Baden came from 2-1 down to capture the fourth 15-12 and the fifth 15-8.
In the other semi, top-seeds Damien Mudge and Ben Gould of Australia
withstood a game challenge from Englishmen Chris Walker and Mark
Chaloner, winning 15-10 in the fourth.
DailySquashReport received this recap from St. Louis:
Mudge/Gould def. Walker/Chaloner 3-1
15-7, 15-12, 10-15, 15-10
Walker/Chaloner put up a good fight, but the top seeds were too
consistent. Mudge/Gould had a slight lapse in the third game, but
firmed up in the fourth and a series of racquet errors from the
fatiguing underdogs put the match away.
Mathur/Baden def. Leach/Jenson 3-2
15-7, 14-15, 12-15, 15-12, 15-8
Great match. Big upset victory for Manek and Swiss. They started strong
and took the first game comfortably. They battled and nearly took the
second as well. Too many errors from Leach and Jenson. They were
rattled and seemed to get upset at each other in the fifth as well. The
battle on the right wall was a physical one with Swiss and Clive doing
a bit of pushing and shoving especially in the fifth. The youngsters
stayed tough however and finished off a great win.
