Egypt’s Wagih, England’s Haycocks Into Madison Open Finals from DailySquashReport.com
October 30, 2011-
Andrew Wagih of Egypt and Jaymie Haycocks of England each cornered
three-love semifinal victories last night to set up today’s
predicted final between the top seeds in the $6000 Madison, Wisconsin
Open.
The 21-year-old Wagih, the world #67 out of Cairo, handed a straight set defeat to Peter Creed of Wales.
Meanwhile Haycocks, of Leeds, needed
a marathon 40-minute second game to subdue Pakistan’s Atlas Khan
in a tough, but conservatively played three-gamer that at least one
observer likened to “watching paint dry”.
Wagih's Madison Open performance is a continuation
of a good North American PSA run he has been enjoying. He reached the semis
of both the Toronto Nash Cup in September and Ottawa’s
Good Life Open earlier this month.
Noteworthy in the amateur portion of
the event was the return to competition of the great Dave Hogg. Hogg
ultimately lost in overtime in the 5th to Mohamed Ali of Chicago, but
in characteristic fashion, he left it all on the court. Semifinal Results: 2011 $6000 PSA Madison Open - Madison, Wisconsin
