November 10, 2012 - Former PSA World #1 John White is proving he can play some hardball doubles as well, as he and partner John Russell ground out two qualifying rounds yesterday to advance to the main draw round-of-eight in the $20,000 2012 SDA Big Apple Open at the New York Athletic Club.

Russell and White will meet fourth seeds Clive Leach and Paul Price today at 3:00pm.

White/Russell began the day beating Jacques Swanepoel and Shaun Johnstone in a tight three, and then went back and forth with the team of Chris Walker and Mark Price in the qualifying final, nursing home a 15-10 fifth game.

Scharff and Barker were presented a first round default and then upset Bernardo Samper and Raj Nanda, coming from two-zip down to win 15-12 in the fifth. They will take on Preston Quick and Matt Jenson today at 4:00pm.
