Bradley Ball Wins PST Tuxedo Park Open

November 13, 2011
- Bradley Ball beat Mohamed El Sherbini 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 to win the 2011 Tuxedo Park Open played at LiveTechnology's Corporate Headquarters in Tuxedo Park, NY. Each session of the tournament was played in front of a spirited crowd of Hudson Valley squash enthusiasts.

The championship was a battle of PST #1's. Sherbini is PST's current points leader, having already won two tournaments this season, San Diego Open and Maine's Bobcat Classic. Ball is PST's reigning Tour Champion.

The match was filled with intense, high paced play. Sherbini began the match with several unforced errors and Ball had a steadier hand as he dominated action. After racing to an 8-4 lead built largely on Sherbini mistakes, he closed out game one 11-7.

Game 2 saw Sherbini settle into a rhythm early. However, the young Egyptian appeared to be frustrated at referee decisions against him. At one point he asked the referee, "Why are you against me?" Ball on this night was the patient and poised veteran. He closed out game 2 with an 11-7 victory.

Game 3 began with Sherbini attacking and putting Ball on the defensive. Sherbini raced to a 7-3 lead. Here again, Ball was steady. To be fair, Ball is an attacking player who is capable of hitting a winner from any spot on court. He was also very much the gentleman on court. At 3-3, the referee awarded Ball a point on a winning shot. Ball called his own ball down and conceded the rally to Sherbini - a gesture that received a warm ovation from the crowd.

Sherbini held game ball at 10-9 but failed to close out the game after an unforced tin. Ball did not waste his opportunity and won the next two points and the Championship. This win is Ball's first tournament title of the young season. His only other tournament appearance this season was in Southampton where he reached the finals.

Both players will join PST later this week in Cleveland for the Cleveland Classic hosted by the Cleveland Skating Club.
