Cambridge Club Doubles Set For This Weekend In Toronto by Rob Dinerman, for DailySquashReport.com
Dateline November 16th---
Twelve of the top ISDA players will convene at the Cambridge Club in
downtown Toronto this weekend to compete for the Jim Bentley Cup in the
38th annual Cambridge Club Doubles Championship. This tournament kicks
off an important stretch in the ISDA schedule, with the Big Apple Open
set for the first weekend of December at the New York Athletic Club and
the biennial Briggs Cup to follow in Rye one week after that to
conclude the autumn 2011 portion of the season.
Ben Gould, who with Michael Pirnak won this event two
years ago, will be teaming with Chris Walker in a three-team
round-robin bracket that will also include the Paul Price/Mark Chaloner
(each a former Cambridge Club Doubles champion) and Matt Jenson/Raj
Nanda pairings (none of whom have ever partnered up before), while in
the other bracket, John Russell (winner of this event with Viktor Berg
last year, defeating Jenson and Preston Quick in a five-game final) and
his English compatriot Clive Leach (who turns 39 on Friday), who led
Ben Gould and Damien Mudge two games to one in the World Doubles in
Toronto this past spring before eventually being overtaken, will be
competing against Manek Mathur/Greg Park and Mudge and Willie Hosey,
who reached the final in St. Louis in their only prior foray as
partners in October 2007.
The two respective bracket winners will face off in the final on Monday night.
