StreetSquash Launches New Program In Newark, New Jersey
from George Polsky

November 16, 2012

Dear Friends & Members of the StreetSquash Family,

I am excited to announce that StreetSquash Newark was launched in September. Our goal is to bring the same level of service and commitment to Newark as we have in Harlem. We have always relied on the generosity of our friends and volunteers to support the work we do. If you are interested in getting involved in StreetSquash Newark in any way, please consider visiting us and volunteering for an afternoon at the Montclair YMCA.

StreetSquash Newark has made a lot of progress over the past two months. So far, we have:

    * Opened an office in downtown Newark
    * Partnered with 2 Newark public schools
    * Recruited 26 boys and girls from our partner schools
    * Run after-school sessions 4 days/week in partnership with the Montclair YMCA
    * Attended 2 squash clinics to the SL Green StreetSquash Center in Harlem

StreetSquash Newark is led by Leah Brown, Executive Director, who has been Program Director at StreetSquash in Harlem since 2007, and before that was Director of College Prep Programs and Academic Director. When it comes to running StreetSquash's programs, Leah has seen and done it all. Corey Kabot, Director of Squash and Community Service runs the weekly squash practices and weekend activities. Corey is a recent graduate of Hobart College, where he captained the squash team. Since joining StreetSquash Newark, he has thrown himself into the task ahead. Already, Leah and Corey are building support within the New Jersey squash community and their students are excited for every new experience and opportunity.

Please join me in welcoming StreetSquash Newark into the StreetSquash family. To learn more, please contact StreetSquash Newark by e-mail at info@streetsquashnj.org, by phone (973) 932-5192, or on-line at www.streetsquash.org/newark.
