November 17, 2011-
PST's Cleveland Classic begins this Thursday, November 17, and the
tournament has attracted many of PST's marquee names. PST's top three
points leaders Mohamed El Sherbini, Bradley Ball, and Adrian Leanza
will be in town to fight for top honors.
To win the title, they'll also have to fight past Irish National
Champion John Rooney and Australian #1 David Palmer both of whom are
making their first tournament appearance of the seaason.
David Palmer announced his decision to join PST last Friday. The week
prior he had been competing in the PSA's World Open. Palmer is the most
accomplished squash player of the past decade. He won two PSA World
Open Championships and four British Opens among his 27 tour titles. He
left PSA ranked #9 in the rankings and #7 in their World Series
Standings.
PST Commissioner Joe McManus calls this the deepest draw ever fielded
on the Pro Squash Tour. "PST continues to attract the world's best
players to our tour. The depth of Cleveland's draw is an indication of
our increasing talent pool."
Also competing in Cleveland are Andrew Kriete (United States), Mick
Joint (Australia), Leroy Leong (Malaysia), Kyle Jens (United States),
Ian Sly (Canada), and Drewe Williams (England).
Sly and Williams are now based in Cleveland. "I know that Ian and Drewe
enter this tournament prepared to give the touring pros a test," said
McManus.
Bradley Ball, last season's PST World Champion, returns to action
against a talented draw. To earn top honors, Ball will need to surpass
two-time reigning Irish National Champion John Rooney and current PST
#1 Mohamed El Sherbini.
Hosted by the Pro Squash Tour, the Cleveland Classic brings together
the world’s greatest squash players for the tour’s sixth
event of the 2011-2012 season. The Classic gives area squash
enthusiasts an opportunity to see the sport’s greatest players
compete in the most intimate of settings.
