BSPA Solent Classic First Round Report from Tim Vail
November 18, 2011- This is the 1st of the BSPA series events for 2011/12.
It is a 3000 pound event carrying psa pointsheld at the Lee-On-The-Solent Club in Hampshire.
Damon Chase v Blake Bettley 11/6 11/8 11/7
A solid game from Damon for a change saw Blake making too many errors.
Darren Ramsay V Sho Miyakawa 11/9 9/11 3/11 11/8 14/12
Didn’t know who was going to win this one. Darren started off the
steadier but seemed to tire at the start of the 3rd game but somehow
got himself back into the 4th and even had a match ball in the 5th but
show managed to compose himself to win the last 3 points on the trot.
Charlie Johnson v Sunil Seth 11/9 7/11 11/1 11/6
Sunil is a typical Aussie, strong, hits it hard and very determined. In
the end this shone through. Charlie showed early signs of settling into
a rhythm and control phases but got stuck between knowing when to
attack and just playing safe. In the end strength prevailed as Sunil
won 3-1.
Gary Harris v Chris Rand 11/6 8/11 9/11 11/8 11/7
Both players are from Lee-on-the-Solent. They started off with 2
absolute flyers of balls, so the 1st game wasn’t really squash
but after that it got better. Neither wanted to lose so there were some
long rallies and some great winners from both players. Gary came back
from 2-1 down to win 11/7 in the 5th.
Jamie Matthews v Paul Cresswell 11/6 11/9 12/10
Jamie made Paul do a lot of work moving him around to the 4 corners
frequently. This annoyed Paul a little as he seemed to find the tin too
often and hence lost close in 3.
Paul Rawden v Nathan Derrick 14/12 11/3 2/11 11/6
Paul can hit superb winners but also tins. Sometimes you are not sure
if he is giving 100% but he seemed to do enough to get through this
round. Will be interesting to see how he does next round.
Tristan Eysele v Alsatair King 11/4 11/7 11/8
A comfortable 3-0 win but a much harder task later!
Keith Timms v Daniel Zammit-Lewis W/O
Keith didn’t check his emails and thought he had a bye instead of a match so walk over to Dan
James Simpson v Phil Bull 11/7 10/12 11/6 11/5
This was the best match of the afternoon. Phil showed some great
touches and athleticism but in the end it was the consistency and
patience of James that saw him win through 3-1
Sam Levin v Neal Brooker 11/5 11/6 11/9
A close encounter with similar styles however sam’s awareness of
where his opponent was on the court proved to be the difference as He
came through 3/0
Neil Chambers v Neal Brooker 11/5 11/7 7/11 11/8
neil c into the game quicker than neil b taking the 1st the 2nd was
competitive to 7 all then neil c stepping up to take the 2nd11 7 the
3rd was when neil b got into the game not giving any loose balls away
and errors coming from neil c game to neil b the 4th went the same but
errors from neil b gives neil c the game 11 8
Nick Mulvey v Brandon Hanley Brandon using his height and reach and good racket skills to good effect to take a competitive match 12 10,11 8.11 9
