Egypt's Andrew Wagih Shoukry cruised to success in the Madison Open in
the USA when he won the PSA World Tour Challenger 5 squash event in its
third year at Madison Squash Workshop in Madison, Wisconsin, without
dropping a game.
It was after overcoming unseeded Welshman Peter Creed in the
semi-finals that the top seed from Cairo faced England's No2 seed
Jaymie Haycocks in the final.
While 21-year-old Shoukry was celebrating his tenth Tour climax, Haycocks was marking his maiden appearance in a PSA final.
After a poor start, the 27-year-old Englishman recovered from 1-5 down
to 8-10 - but was unable to prevent Shoukry taking an early lead.
"It was a better start in the second game and it was even, five-all,
and six-all," said tournament organiser Damon Bourne. "But a few solid
points by Wagih, and some errors off Jaymie's racquet, cost the
Englishman the second."
Birmingham-based Haycocks went up 5-1 in the third, but the Egyptian
stepped up a gear and closed out the match in a single hand from 2-5
down to win 11-8, 11-7, 11-5.
The triumph marks the fourth PSA World Tour title of Shoukry's career.
