David Palmer Wins In Cleveland For First PST Tour Title from DailySquashReport.com
November 21, 2011-
Four-time British Open winner David Palmer of Australia captured the
PST Cleveland Open championship Saturday with a four-game final round
win over Ireland’s John Rooney.
Palmer was making his first competitive PST appearance since signing
with the US-based tour earlier this month. In the semifinals, he also
needed four games to put away Mohamed El Sherbini of Egypt.
Joe McManus filed this report:
Australian #1 David Palmer beat Irish National Champion John Rooney 3-1
to win the 2011 Cleveland Classic hosted by the Cleveland Skating Club.
Palmer and Rooney played a wonderfully clean match that delighted the
crowd.
Rooney prevailed in the opening frame as he patiently built rallies and
waited for his opportunities for a winning shot. He prevailed in game 1
winning 11-9.
The rest of the match belonged to Palmer. His pace and depth were too
good for Rooney on this night. And by the end of the match, it was
clear the that tough semi-final with Bradley Ball had taken a toll on
Rooney's legs. Palmer was too strong and too quick.
The tournament was presented by the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Scott Sazima.
In the 3rd place match, Bradley Ball beat Mohamed El Sherbini 11-6, 12-14, 11-8, 11-9.
