Swelim Sweeps Into Saskatoon Semis by Howard Harding
26 November 2011-
Unseeded Italian Amr Ramsy Swelim swept into the semi-finals of the
Prairie Autohaus Saskatoon Boast Open in Canada when he upset second
seed Gonzalo Miranda in the quarter-finals of the PSA World Tour
Challenger 10 squash event in its tenth year at the YMCA in Saskatoon.
It took just 33 minutes for the Cairo-based 27-year-old to dismiss Miranda, the world No115 from Argentina, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5.
"Swelim was all smiles after the match and noted his game plan was to
slow down the game and not play the fast retrieving game the South
American players loved to play," said event spokesman Daryl Foreman.
"He gave full marks to Miranda and advised he was a talented and
improving player."
Swelim will now face fellow non-seed Dane Sharp, the 26-year-old from
Toronto who ensured Canadian interest in the lower half of the draw by
beating Malaysian qualifier Kam Hing Choong 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5 in
47 minutes.
Fourth seed Andrew Schnell leads local interest in the top half of the
draw following his 11-7, 9-11, 11-4, 11-7 win over fellow countryman
Thomas Brinkman.
Calgary-born Schnell will line up against Zac Alexander after the top
seed from Australia defeated Spanish qualifier Alejandro Garbi Caro
9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-4.
