- Top-seeds Eric Pearson and Peter Karlen dominated proceedings and swept to victory in last weekend’s San Francisco Open, held at John Lau’s University Club of SF.

Pearson and Karlen beat the team of Eric Wohlgemuth and Ross Revenaugh in the finals by three games to love. In the semis, they took care of Preston Comey and Richard Hashim, while Wohlgemuth and Revenaugh prevailed over Kevin Jernigan and Kevin Orphan.

University Club pro Lau had his patented cross-court nick rolling out regularly in his and partner Spencer Brog’s first round win over Rob Gibbons and Carter Paine, but the magic ran out in the second round as Lau/Brog fell to the talented Comey/Hashim duo.

In mixed doubles, it was Kevin Orphan teaming with Missy Smith to outlast Eric and Ali Pearson in a tough five-game final to win it all.

And in 50-and-over action, it was Bruce Callander and John Fisher upsetting the ageless Jim Marver/Jim Gibbons team in a surprising three, though Marver and Gibbons rebounded to win the 60’s in four over Bart McGuire and Ted Marmor, who in turn rebounded to win the 70’s in three over David O’Neal and Ivan Glover.
