- It was a tough trip to New Delhi for Julian Illingworth of New York, as the top American was beaten in straight games yesterday in the first round of the $165K Punj Lloyd PSA Masters by Saurav Ghosal of India.

Julian played a strong first game, losing it in overtime, but then appeared to lose his fighting spirit, as he succumbed tamely to the speedy 25-year-old #1 ranked Indian, falling behind 10-2 and 10-1 in the second and third games.

The final tally for Ghosal was 12-10, 11-4, 11-2.

Illingworth, the only North American in the main draw, is ranked 28 in the world by the PSA while the UK-based Ghosal is 29th.

Illingworth had defeated Ghosal at the #1 position this summer at the World Team Championships in Germany, when the US faced India in the consolation bracket.

This fall, however, the wins have been hard to come by for the 27-year-old Oregon native, as Julian has lost in the first round of the US Open qualifying in Philadelphia, the first round of the NetSuite Open in California, the first round of the World Open in Rotterdam, the second round of the Macau Open in China, the first round of the Hong Kong Open and now the first round of the PSA Masters in India, which is the final World Series event of 2011.
