ISDA North American Open Doubles Qualifying Finals And 1st Round Today

January 20, 2011 - The first round of qualifying was completed at Roundhill early Thursday afternoon with two contrasting matches. The first match featured local pros Luke Butterworth (RHC) & Ricky Weisskoft (GCC) taking on Alex Langerhorst and Travis Judson in what proves to be a tightly contested affair. Langerhorst and Judson showed that extra bit of experience when they managed to pull out a 15-13 5th game victory.
The second match was far more straight forward with Field Club Pros, Liam kenny and Adam Bews closing out a comfortable 3-0 victory over Rob Dinerman and Ned Marks. The Field Club duo controlled the match from start to finish and never looked like losing.
The evening brought second round qualifying matches to both Roundhill and GCC. The local favourites Steve Scharff & Phil Barker battled the Canadian duo of Will Mariani and Ian Power in front of a sizable crowd. After a nervous first game, which they snuck 15-13, Scharff and Barker settled into the match with Scharff finding winner after winner and Barker complementing this by playing steady, error free squash. Scharff/Barker closed out a 3-0 victory and march on to the final qualifying round on Friday.
The final doubles match of the day at RHC was a contest between the international team of Shane Coleman(AUS) & Jacques Swanepoel (RSA) Vs the days earlier victors, Travis Judson & Alex Langerhorst. Coleman and Swanepoel have teamed up in previous tournaments together and this prior experience proved to be decisive in their 3-0 victory.
Roundhill Club Head Pro Steve Scharff & GCC pro Phil Barker will be back in action at 12.45pm @RHC vs Shane Coleman & Jacques Swanepoel....come lend your support!! Later in the evening RHC pro Greg McArthur & Dan Roberts will be playing at 5.30pm at RHC vs the winner of Scharff/Barker & Coleman/Swanepoel.
