- Seattle's Latasha Khan has had plenty of memorable wins over a 20-plus-year career, but this had to be right up there.

Latasha shocked 18-year-old Egyptian rising star Nour El Tayeb, the current World Junior Champion and 20-th ranked WSA player, in five games yesterday to advance to the 2nd round of the women's Tournament Of Champions at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

After going up two-love and then losing games three and four, it appeared Khan's momentum was gone. But surprisingly, she pulled off the fifth game 11-1 to cap off the day's most memorable performace: 11-7 13-11 7-11 9-11 11-1.

In the quarterfinals, Latasha will face another Egyptian teenager, 16-year-old Nour El Sherbini, the runner-up to El Tayeb in last summer's world juniors. El Sherbini ground out a tough four-set win (11-6 11-9 9-11 11-4) yesterday over 3rd seeded Samantha Teran of Mexico.

In other first round action, India's Dipika Pallikal squared off against New York's Olivia Blatchford, with Pallikal coming through in three: 11-5 11-3 11-7.

And Jonathon Power protege Maria Toor Pakay of Toronto, after qualifying into the main draw, was straight-setted on the big stage by #4 seed Donna Urquhart of Australia, 11-7 11-7 11-3.
