Pallikal 11-9 In The Fifth Over Urquhart To Reach TOC Semis

January 25, 2012 - 20-year-old Dipika Pallikal of India needed the full five games last night to stop 14th-ranked Donna Urquhart of Australia and reach tonight's semifinal round of the $27K women's Tournament of Champions on 42nd Street in Manhattan.
The final tally was 11-9 11-5 7-11 10-12 11-9.
Pallikal continues her strong run of late, having made the semis at last week's Greenwich Open and coming off a career-best 2011 WSA campaign in which she won the Orange County Open in California, the Dread Sports Series in Washington DC and the Crocodile Cup in Hong Kong.
She will meet 17th ranked Jacyln Hawkes of New Zealand in tonight's first semi.
Hawkes cruised to a surprisingly one-sided win over top-seeded Rachael Grinham of Australia in earlier quarterfinal play: 11-3 11-8 11-5.
