Dateline January 7th --- Following up on their semifinal win over defending champs Whitten Morris and Trevor McGuinness, first-time partners James Stout and Jacques Swanepoel surged to a 17-15 15-17 15-13 15-5 victory Sunday afternoon over Imran Khan and Todd Ruth in the final round of the 51st annual William White Invitational, hosted as always by the Merion Cricket Club in suburban Philadelphia. Khan and Ruth, semifinal winners over top seeds John White and John Russell, surrendered late-game leads in both the first (14-7!) and third games against Stout/Swanepoel, who then raced out to an early advantage at the outset of the fourth game and never looked back. White did recover to win the hardball singles competition in a four-game final over Alex Stait while in the Elite Eight softball tourney, Alister Walker emerged victorious with a four-game final-round win over Miguel Rodriguez.
