Joe McManus Says PST Will Include Pro Doubles Tour Next Season
from DailySquashReport.com

February 15, 2012 - Joe McManus, CEO of the upstart US-based Pro Squash Tour (PST), announced yesterday that his tour is adding a pro hardball doubles circuit, the DST, for the 2012-13 season.

Specific tour locations and dates will be announced by this summer, he said.

Hardball doubles is played exclusively in North America, on courts 45 feet long by 25 feet wide.

The speed of the ball combined with the explosive shotmaking prowess and athleticism of its star players makes for a compelling and decidedly different spectator experience from singles.

Currently, professional doubles is played under the umbrella of the Toronto-based ISDA (International Squash Doubles Association), which was formed in 2000.

The Pro Squash Tour (PST) was founded in 2009 and has seventeen professional singles events on its calendar.

The PST released the following statement:

Framingham, MA (February 14, 2012) –Joe McManus, Commissioner and CEO of Pro Squash Tour (PST) announced today the tour is expanding to include doubles squash events. Doubles Squash Tour (DST) will launch this coming fall.

“Doubles is a natural extension to what we already do,” said McManus. Several of our players want to play doubles events, and fans want to see PST’s best compete in doubles and in pro-am tournaments.”

“The fact that we can now offer both makes us a more attractive option for clubs across North America,” concluded McManus.

Doubles and singles were previously successfully promoted together as part of the WPSA. In 1993, the WPSA and ISPA merged and the newly formed PSA did not include hardball doubles in its future plans. With a growing Professional Squash Tour now based in the U.S., the opportunity to simultaneously promote both games is again possible.

DST events may run concurrently with PST events. The two tours will be branded separately but will be managed by the same staff. The Doubles Squash Tour (DST) website, www.DoublesSquashTour.com, is under construction.
2012 / 2013 tour dates will be announced this summer.
