The announcement that the men's world singles is slated for Cairo makes you wonder about the security concerns that forced the collapse of the world teams there just two months ago. Bottom line: pros don't love playing in team competitions . . . Not sure what exactly happened to Joe McManus and the PST, but I miss the guy on the scene and I miss his weekly newsletter that rocked the boat . . . Joe was ridiculed at times for his innovative no-let rule, but it appears PSA matches are being refereed with Joe's concept in mind . . . All-around nice guy and clean player: Swiss No 1 Nicolas Muller . . . Interesting that on Jim Zug's visit to the once-proud Uptown Racquet Club on the eve of its closure, all courts still standing were filled . . . Public squash in New York was at its peak when club players could play softball on hardball courts, which was a better game for them.  It was common at Uptown during prime time for all twelve hardball courts to be filled with softball players, while the two official softball courts sat empty . . .  In the heyday Uptown had 14 courts, Fifth Avenue had 7, Broad Street had 10, Manhattan SC had 10, Lincoln had 8, Park Avenue had 10, Doral had 3, Park Place had 3 and First Avenue had 3,  . . . which totaled 68 courts at public clubs in Manhattan . . . Hard to believe, but DSR is coming up on its fifth anniversary in April, and an early thank you to our faithful readers!
