Top-Seeded Trinity Men Over Yale 7-2 To Advance To Final

February 23, 2013 New Haven, Conn. – The top-seeded Trinity College Bantams remained perfect for the season with a 7-2 victory over the host and No. 4-seeded Yale University Bulldogs in the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship (Potter Trophy) Semifinals this afternoon at Brady Courts. Trinity, which won the national title every year from 1999 to 2011, improves to 18-0 and will face the No. 3-seeded Harvard University Crimson in the finals tomorrow at Yale at 12:30 p.m. Harvard edged Princeton, 5-4, in the other CSA Semifinal today. The Bantams will be making their 17th appearance in a row and overall in the CSA Finals, having previously beaten Harvard in the finals five times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005) after losing to the Crimson in its first two appearances (1997 and 1998)
Trinity senior co-captain Johan Detter (Malmoe, Sweden) won, 3-0, at No. 6 to offset an early loss by Bantam sophomore Miled Zarazua (Mexico City, Mexico) at No. 3 to Yale’s Richard Dodd and tie the match at 1-1. Junior Matthew Mackin (Greenwich, Conn.) edged Yale’s Roberts in a close affair, 13-11, 8-11, 13-11, 11-9 in the No. 9 match, and the Bantams rattled off wins in the next five matches after that for a 7-2 triumph. Sophomore No. 8 Moustafa Hamada (Alexandria, Egypt) won the fifth point for the Bantams with a 3-1 win.
