Massaro Makes Perfect Start To Championship Defence

- Defending Champion, Laura Massaro made light work of her first round opponent in the British National Squash Championships today.  Lancashire was guaranteed a second round place in the tournament, now in its 16th year, when the number three seed met fellow Lancastrian Amina Helal at the National Squash Centre but the challenger was unable to spring a surprise and sent Massaro through with a comfortable 11/3, 11/5, 11/2 victory match which lasted just 18 minutes.

In the men’s tournament top seed James Willstrop, is safely through to the third round of the British National Squash Championships following a convincing victory over Cheshire’s Andy Whipp this afternoon. Leeds–based Willstrop took just 24 minutes to defeat his opponent 11/4, 11/3, 11/9.

Fellow Yorkshireman and world number one, Nick Matthew, is in action tonight (8.00 pm) where he faces Shropshire’s Jaymie Haycocks seeded 15th in the championships which are now in their 16th year.

Three-times National Champion Yorkshire’s Jenny Duncalf meets the unseeded Laura Hill tonight in a first round match that will close the evening session.
