- Top American Julian Illingworth came from a game down yesterday to win tight second and third games before pulling away in the fourth to  beat Chris Gordon and claim his eighth consecutive SL Green US Men's Closed Championship.

The final tally from the Harvard University Murr Center was 6-11 11-8 11-9 11-5.

Illingworth, now 28, captured his first SL Green championship in 2005.

All eight of Julian's titles have come in the "closed" era, which began in the mid-90's when an administrative decision was made to prohibit non-US citizens from playing in the event.

Illingworth beat Harvard sophomore varsity player Brandon McLaughlin in his semi, while Gordon bested veteran Graham Bassett.

Illingworth is a native of Portland, Oregon, and is currently ranked #28 by the PSA. He captained the US men's team, of which Gordon was a member, to a 7th-place finish in last summer's World Team Championships in Paderborn, Germany.
