US "Closed" Nationals Needs To Be Opened To Everyone

- The dismal turnout of 23 players total for this past weekend's US National Men's and Women's Championships makes it clear that the "closed to non-US citizens" format, which was adopted in the mid-1990's, needs to be shelved.

The SL Green men's event couldn't even fill up a 16-man draw, and on the women's side you had a total of nine entrants! In the Nationals!

There are currently dozens of elite players living in North America who would be eager to play in the event, but are ineligible because of the citizenship requirement.

Let's cut through the nonsense - open it up!
