Popular Pro Gus Cook Resigns From Country Club Of Virginia, Releases Statement

From Gus Cook:

March 20, 2012

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

After 10 very enjoyable years of at first jump starting and then consequently directing The Country Club of Virginia's squash program, I recently offered the club my resignation.

This decision was not an easy one to make but I feel it is the right one for the future of the squash program, the club membership and personally for myself too.

Over the past decade it has been a real pleasure to witness so many members take up this great game and to see the 3 courts start to hum with activity as more friends and family members came along to try out the sport and see what all the talk was about.

The program has gone from strength to strength and now features a City Team League competition involving 120 CCV members, multiple tournaments for men, women and juniors for all playing levels and ages, challenge ladders, travel team matches, regular clinics and lessons, 3 school teams and a large junior program, summer camps and exhibition pro events featuring some of the worlds very best.

The CCV has played a major role in the development of the sport throughout this region by hosting all Virginia State tournaments including the prestigious Price -Bullington Invitational Collegiate event, the Salty Hawkins junior tournament, the VA State Open and Fall Classic for amateurs along with the qualification draw of the North American Open mens professional ( PSA ) tournament.

Over the past few years the junior program at The CCV has really started to flourish and these young players will form the bedrock of the squash program moving forwards for many more years to come. It is such a great experience to see young members who I enjoyed coaching as teenagers, go on college before coming back to Richmond and picking up the game in earnest once more.

I am very proud to have been a part of something quite unique and very special which I will remember and have fond memories of for the rest of my life. I would like to Thank Everyone for the opportunity to take on this role, for your continued support of myself and of the squash program over the years.

Special Thanks go to Tom Wallace for his unwavering support, all my colleagues in the racquets sports department, to the housekeeping team, the snack bar/catering staff, and the maintenance crew for helping to ensure the program and time spent has been enjoyable for Everyone who ever came to play or watch some action in the squash lobby area.

In the future I am sure the program will continue to be a dynamic part of The Country Club of Virginia's great many attractions and I look forward to hearing about the new developments in the years to come.

I plan to continue in my current position through to the end of May and will, as always , be very happy to see you take to the squash courts and do battle over the next few months with so many tournaments still to be played and trophies yet to be won.

All the Best to You and in Squash, Gus
