StreetSquash- Director of Squash and Community Service
Program Overview: Founded in
September 1999, StreetSquash is an after-school youth enrichment
program that combines academic tutoring, squash instruction, college
prep, literacy, community service and one-on-one mentoring. Working
with 300 boys and girls, ages 8 - 23 from Harlem, StreetSquash aims to
help each child realize his or her academic and personal potential.
StreetSquash focuses on long-term, intensive work with our students,
and therefore requires a 6-year commitment from all participants in our
core program.
This year we are seeking great people to join our growing staff! We are
looking for caring, motivated, and energetic candidates who will join
our program for an initial 2-year commitment.
Position Description:
StreetSquash seeks a full-time, benefited Director of Squash and
Community Service starting in August 2012. Squash Directors work in
conjunction with Academic Directors to guide 2 teams of 30 students in
each grade. The Squash Director is responsible for the organization and
supervision of weekday and weekend squash practices and community
service outings, which includes, but is not limited to, on-court
instruction, recruiting of volunteers, planning of tournaments and
matches, and placement of students in summer squash programs. Beyond
daily programs, Squash Directors perform extensive outreach in support
of our students and families, visiting their homes and matching them
with additional services when necessary. StreetSquash believes in
providing opportunities for professional growth and encourages its
staff to develop skills in a wide range of program areas, including,
but not limited to: curriculum development, grant writing &
fundraising, and marketing.
Qualifications: Candidates must
have a bachelor’s degree, and have extensive experience playing or
teaching squash. StreetSquash seeks high energy individuals who are
committed to serving disadvantaged youth and communities. Proficiency
in Spanish or French is desired, but not required.
Valid NYS driver’s license, comfort and capacity to occasionally drive vans
Start date: August 2012
Hours: Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm, alternating Friday
11:30-7:30/Saturdays 9am-5pm. Staff also accompany students on weekend
trips to competitions and tournaments at various times during the
squash season.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Range: $35,000-$40,000.
