The University of Hull Strengthens Sporting Ties As Partner to British Open

March 21, 2013 - Following a significant investment into new squash facilities The University of Hull have signed a deal to support the 2013 Allam British Open as an Associate Partner.

The University’s squash courts are currently being refurbished into a state of the art modern sporting facility, which will include five new glass back courts thanks to investment from England Squash & Racketball.

The 2013 Allam British Open is the most prestigious squash tournament in the world and will attract the top male and female professional players from across the globe to Hull, including double world champion Nick Matthew, current world number one Ramy Ashour and female star Nicol David.

The main event is being held on a spectacular all-glass court at the KC Stadium between 20-26 May whilst the British Open Masters tournament will be staged at the University during the same period.

The University will host hundreds of Masters players ranging from over 35’s to over 80’s from across the world.

Jon Carney, Facilities Manager at England Squash & Racketball commented: “We’re delighted to be working with the University of Hull and key partners across the city to deliver a high quality facility.  The Humber Squash Academy will be involved in the development of the centre and the local community will benefit from the facility too.  The courts are a real and lasting legacy to holding the British Open in Hull.”
