Whitlock In Third Successive Title Win In Switzerland by Matt Wagg
March 26, 2012-
Teenage sensation Emily Whitlock continues her excellent 2012 campaign
by winning the $5K Swiss Open 2012 in Geneva, Switzerland.
In her third successive WSA World Tour title win, Whitlock beat Coline
Aurmard of France in the final, one of three Frenchwomen she would play
on route to claim the title.
The 18-year-old beat fellow teenager Julia Lecoq in the first round,
followed by No7 seed Lotte Eriksen of Norway in the quarters, both
3-0. She continued her three-game trend throughout the
competition, beating Laura Pomportes in the semi before defeating
Aumard in the final.
Aumard, the No3 seed for the event, had earlier beaten No2 seed Olga
Ertlova of the Czech Republic on her way to the final, but was unable
to stop Whitlock in her challenge for the title. The final was
closely fought, with Aumard pushing hard in the first, and later
forcing a tie-break situation in the second game.
Ultimately though, the young world No32 was too good, and is surely
showing a positive sign of things to come as she continues to rise up
the rankings.
