Sarah-Jane Perry Captures WSA Mayfair Title In Toronto
from WSA Media

March 26, 2013 - The impressive form of Sarah-Jane Perry continues as the Englishwoman claimed the WSA Tour 10 Mayfair Open in Toronto, Canada at the weekend.

The No.3 seed from Birmingham, England recorded straight games wins over Megan Craig and Lauren Selby in the opening rounds of the inaugural Canadian event, before lining up against second seed Sarah Kippax in the semi-finals.  Ranked just six places below Kippax, Perry overturned an early deficit to complete an unfancied win against her national compatriot in four games.

Elsewhere, fourth seeded Egyptian Heba El Torky overcame a tricky first round tie against wildcard Hollie Naughton in five games, before coming back from 2-1 down against No.7 seed Misaki Kobayashi to edge into the semi-final round with a fifth game win.

There, the 22-year-old faced top seed Samantha Teran of Mexico in another back-and-forth five game contest.  The Egyptian eventually got the better of the tournament favourite, to book the sixth WSA final appearance of her career.

Perry took an early lead in the Mayfair Open final, as her opponent took her time to get into the match following some lengthy earlier matches.  El Torky found her footing in the next game and managed to disrupt the Englishwoman’s rhythm to claim a narrow second game win.  She was unable to sustain her advantage however as Perry, having played five fewer games throughout the tournament, upped the pressure and played out the victory in four games.

Perry, ranked at No.26 in the world, has risen 39 places in the WSA World Rankings since this time last year, and in that time has added five WSA titles to her haul, making six overall.

This week, along with the other top eight seeds of the event, Perry will feature in the WSA Tour 15 Granite Open, also in Toronto.
