Alison Waters Cruises To Victory In Inaugural WSA Toronto Granite Club Open from DailySquashReport.com
March 29, 2012-
London's Alison Waters bagged her second WSA title on Canadian soil in
two weeks tonight when she beat American Latasha Khan 11-3 11-8 11-3 to
capture the $11,000 Granite Club Open before an enthusiastic gallery on
Bayview Avenue in Toronto.
Waters swept through the event without the loss of a game.
The 28-year-old former world #3, currently attempting a comeback from
injury, negotiated a difficult field to win last week's Atwater Cup in
Montreal, beating 19th-ranked Joey Chan in the semis and 7th-ranked
Kasey Brown in the final.
Sam Cornett Files Her Final Report On The Granite Club Open:
Alison Waters def Latasha Khan 3-0, 11-3, 11-8, 11-3
The finals have begun! Alison comes out strong, showing no mercy to
dominate the first game. Her amazing gets and terrific volley drops
left Latasha scrambling from left to right. In the second game Latasha
stepped up her game and gave Alison a run for her money. The
spectators’ jaws dropped watching the long, intense rallies. But it was
Alison who managed to pull out a close game, going up 2-0. Stepping on
to the court for the third game, Alison looked determined to close the
game in 3. Alison punished Latasha with her attacking volleys, tight
length, and high pace. Latasha gave it all she had but it was not
enough to beat the former world number 3. With a hold and flick from
the back left corner, Alison became the first champion of the hopefully
annual Granite Club Open! The crowd was huge and very
appreciative of the high-quality play. Now everyone’s enjoying
the two free kegs! Cheers
