Popular Wael El Hindi Nabs PST Buffalo Wild Wings Westchester Open Title from Tour Media March 4, 2012
-The ever charismatic Wael El Hindi (Egypt) won the Buffalo Wilds Wings
Westchester Open in three games over Supreet Singh (India) Sunday at
Rye Brook, NY's Club at 800. The tournament, sponsored in part by
Cadent Energy Partners and Club at 800, marked El Hindi's return to PST
action.
Singh entered the court full of intensity and controlled the tempo of
play early. He jumped to a quick 7-3 lead as El Hindi was unable to
find winning opportunities. El Hindi walked around the court and
collected his thoughts and then fought back to 9-9 and closed out game
one 11-9.
Game two was a display of shot making as El Hindi time and again
displayed the finesse and style that has made him the sport's most
charismatic figure. Game two went to El Hindi 11-5.
Game three featured both players hitting tight rails. Singh needed to
be patient to prevent openings for El Hindi. And El Hindi also seemed
comfortable with this up and down the rail style. Although Singh stayed
with El Hindi throughout game three, Wael was just too strong. Game
three to El Hindi 11-8.
TG Raubenheimer (South Africa) beat Fabian Kalaitzis (Greece) 11-8,
7-11, 11-9, 11-3 in the third place match. Without doubt the shot of
the tournament belonged to Kalaitzis who hit a "behind the back winning
nick" in the middle of game two that brough a roar from the crowd.
This represents PST's third time returning to Club at 800 for an event.
PST Commissioner Joe McManus said he enjoys returning to Club at 800.
"Mike [Callaway] is a good friend and has been very good to our tour.
And Club at 800 has a very active group of juniors and adults playing
squash. It's a privilege for us to return each year, and we look
forward to the next time."
This tournament also represented El Hindi's return to PST action. "Kids
just love Wael," continued McManus. "He is so charismatic and is a
natural showman. Signing Wael was a big milestone for PST."
Finals: Wael El Hindi beats Supreet Singh 11-9, 11-5, 11-8
