The Curious Case of the 60-Year-Old Guy Wildcarded Into the Main Draw of a PSA Event
by Ted Gross

April 24, 2015

The theme of the emails I've received the last few days is: 'What's this guy doing in there?'

Since I don't always read the articles I link to on DSR, I had to educate myself as to what guy and where.

The readers were referring to a US Squash story from Tuesday which said that Cass Sunstein was awarded a main draw wildcard into the US Pro Series Charlotte Open, a PSA Challenger 5 event.

Cass is by all accounts a good guy and was a solid, mid-level college player back in the 1970's.

According to squashinfo.com, he is now 60 years old - not your typical PSA main draw wildcard candidate.

So I emailed the PSA with what I thought was a simple question: "Any idea why Cass Sunstein was awarded a wildcard into the Charlotte pro event?"

No response.

I tried US Squash (it was, after all, their promo that I was responding to).

Zip.

So I tried the tournament director of the Charlotte Open and did get a reply, but if there was an answer to my question in there, I couldn't find it.

The answer can't be that complicated, but at this point it is apparently being guarded tighter than Area 51.

And the beat goes on . . .
