Khaled Khalifa and Heba El Torky made it a home nation double in the
Egyptian Circuit No1 after winning the finals of the inaugural
international squash circuit event at the Shooting Club in Cairo.
Unseeded Khalifa continued his giant-killing run through the men's PSA
World Tour Challenger 10 event by despatching second-seeded fellow
countryman Omar Abdel Aziz in straight games.
The reigning world junior champion from Cairo removed the fourth seed
in the quarter-finals, then defeated 27-year-old Aziz, the world No42,
11-7, 11-9, 11-7.
The triumph marks Khalifa's first Tour title success on home soil
– but the seventh of his brief career to date – and is sure
to see the 18-year-old improve on his current PSA world ranking of 78.
The final of the women's WISPA World Tour 8 event was a more dramatic
affair, in which South African outsider Siyoli Waters twice led the
Egyptian favourite in a bid to win her maiden Tour title.
But El Torky, the 20-year-old world No36 from Alexandria, held her nerve to keep fourth-seeded Waters at bay.
And after 59 minutes, the Egyptian clinched victory over her 28-year-old opponent, winning 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4, 11-5.
The triumph marks Heba El Torky's fourth Tour title – and extends the Alexandria star's unbeaten record in WISPA finals.
