Dateline May 15th
--- Trailing two games to one, second seeds Amanda Sobhy and her first-time partner Latasha Khan rallied to a 16-13 13-15 13-15 15-10 15-8 victory over Alicia McConnell and Dana Betts yesterday afternoon in the semifinal round of the inaugural Crescent Capital LA Open, held at the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles. Sobhy and Khan will now face top seeds and recently-crowned Players Championship winners Narelle Krizek and Suzie Pierrepont Sunday afternoon after Krizek and Pierrepont out-played Karen Jerome and Krizek’s sister Natarsha McElhinny (five-game quarterfinal victors from two-love down over Fernanda Rocha and Marci Sier, 15-13 in the fifth) in the other semifinal.

The Krizek/Pierrepont and Sobhy/Khan tandems both received byes to the semis of the six-team $13,000 tournament. Betts and McConnell had defeated Philadelphians Dawn Gray and Amy Milanek in the remaining quarterfinal. The final will represent the third time this season that Krizek and Pierrepont oppose Sobhy in a WDSA ranking tournament final – the 17-year-old Harvard-bound Sobhy and Natalie Grainger had prevailed in straight games in December in the Turner Cup final (the only loss that Krizek/Pierrepont have sustained in their six tournament appearances as partners entering this weekend) before losing the rematch last month in New York, when Pierrepont had contributed six winners to her team’s 10-0 match-ending fifth-game charge from 5-all. The final later today will be the last match of the 2010-11 WDSA tour schedule.
