three months after returning to the PSA World Tour after a three-year
layoff, unseeded Pakistani Mohammad Shahnawaz toppled top-seeded
compatriot Farhan Mehboob in today's semi-finals of the 1st Prime
Minister FMC International Pakistan Circuit No2 to reach the final of
the Challenger 10 squash event at the PSA Squash Complex in Lahore,
Pakistan.
Shahnawaz, a 23-year-old from
Lahore, ranked 325 in the world, fought back from a game down to
overcome world No31 Mehboob 3-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9 in 42 minutes to
celebrate his maiden appearance in a Tour final.
And it will be an all-Lahore climax in which Shahnawaz lines up against fourth seed Yasir Butt.
Butt, ranked 133 in the world, also
recovered from losing the first game to beat left-hander Mansoor Zaman,
a former world No11 from Peshawar, 7-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9 in just 38
minutes.
Butt, who has yet to win a PSA title, is celebrating his third successive Tour final and the eighth of his career.
