Program: Urban Squash Cleveland

Position:
Urban Squash Cleveland (“USC”) seeks an Executive Director in Cleveland, Ohio. USC, founded
in 2011, is a youth enrichment after-school program for inner city Cleveland youth. USC
combines academic instruction and support, instruction in the sport of squash, community
service, as well as providing mentoring and life skills to impact the lives of middle and high
school students in Cleveland. USC presently serves 30 students ranging from 5th to 9th grade.
In addition to the Executive Director, USC employs an Education Director. The hiring of a
Squash Director will be a principal responsibility of the incoming Executive Director.
The successful candidate will be organized, hardworking, and comfortable raising money and
will have a passion for coaching, tutoring and mentoring young people from poor
communities and cultivating personal relationships with their families. As the leader of the
organization, the Executive Director will control her/his daily schedule, but the position
demands considerably more than a typical full-time job. For at least the first year, the
Executive Director should be present at most of the program’s weekday and weekend
practices, and be regularly accessible outside of traditional work hours.
Compensation & Benefits: Salary range: $50,000-$65,000 commensurate with experience
and qualification. All future increases based on performance and subject to the discretion of
the Board of Directors. Additionally, the Executive Director will be entitled to health insurance
and five (5) weeks of vacation subject to the following restrictions: One (1) week shall be
taken in December, One (1) week shall be taken in the spring consistent with the program
schedule and three (3) weeks shall be taken in the summer.

Responsibilities:
The Executive Director will report to USC’s Board of Directors and her/his responsibilities will
include assembling and managing an able and dedicated staff; creating, strengthening and
managing the program’s partnerships with local schools and universities, businesses, and
nonprofits; recruiting and retaining students and volunteers; raising money and organizing
fundraisers and other events; working with and building USC’s Board of Directors and Young
Professionals Board; and other duties as needed or assigned.

Qualifications & Experience
 Bachelor’s degree required􀊡 graduate degree a plus
 Strong familiarity with the urban squash program model; past experience as a
volunteer or staff member of an urban squash program highly desirable
 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Experience as a squash player or squash coach is required

coach, tutor, chaperon or more􀊡 exhibits the gravitas, charisma and knowledge to be
credible in all situations.
