Nathan Lake Lifts PSA Jersey Classic Title by Nathan Clarke 26TH MAY 2015
- Nathan Lake, the World No.126 from Cheltenham, captured the second
PSA World Tour title of his career with a victory over fellow
Englishman Ashley Davies in the final of the Rathbones Jersey Squash
Classic, PSA Challenger 5 event.
The 22-year-old won his first PSA World Tour title in South Africa at
the beginning of the month and followed that up with some superb form
which saw him defeat number one seed Joel Makin in a tense 3-2
semi-final victory.
Davies meanwhile also had to fight through a difficult semi-final
against second seed Michael Harris, with two of the games going to a
tiebreak as Davies earned the hard-fought victory.
It was Lake who recovered earlier after the pair’s titanic semi-final
tussles and he took a strong opening game with an 11-6 victory. Davies
struggled with the Cheltenham-born third seed’s energetic game and
succumbed to another loss in in the second.
Lake pushed on to record an 11-7 win in the third and final game to take the match and the title in brilliant fashion.
“I am really pleased to win my second PSA event in 4 weeks,” Lake said.
“I have played in this event before but never won a match, so to come
back to Jersey and win is a good feeling. The crowds have been great
all week and the members have been really friendly. I am really looking
forward to coming back in 2016 and trying to retain my title.
