Karwalski Captures Argentina PSA Crown by Howard Harding
27 May 2013
- Australia's Matthew Karwalski won the biggest PSA World Tour title of
his career when he beat fourth-seeded Englishman Jaymie Haycocks in the
final of the ACHS Resistencia Regatas Open - Tour de las Americas, the
PSA Challenger 10 squash event in its third year at Club Regatas
Resistencia in Resistencia, Argentina.
The second-seeded Karwalski always had the measure of his English opponent as he eased to an 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 win over Haycocks.
Both had overcome local qualifiers in the previous round - 29-year-old
fourth seed Haycocks surviving a close five-game battle against
Argentina's Leandro Romiglio to each the third Tour final of his career.
The title was Karwalski's fourth on the PSA Tour - but his first in
almost two years since he won the Golden Open on home soil in June 2011.
The win is a huge confidence boost for the 27-year-old from New South
Wales, who will make his senior Australian debut at the Men's World
Team Championship in France next month.
