Dane Kristian Frost Olesen maintained his impressive run in the
inaugural Pilatus Cup when he moved into the semi-finals PSA World Tour
Challenger 10 squash event at Sportpark Pilatus in the Swiss town of
Kriens.
After removing third seed Gilly Lane in a marathon first round battle,
Olesen defeated fellow non-seed Lewis Walters, of England, 11-3, 11-6,
11-8 to become the only unseeded player in the last four.
The 22-year-old from Odense will now face another Englishman Chris
Simpson for a place in the final. Top seed Simpson defeated
Australian Steve Finitsis 11-5, 11-7, 2-11, 11-7.
"I'm very happy ... reaching the semis is very pleasing," said
Olesen. "Lewis played well today, but I managed to get in front
of him, which made the difference. I'm looking forward to tomorrow
where I'm playing Simpson!"
The other men's semi-final features Frenchman Julien Balbo and Italian
Stephane Galifi. Fourth seed Balbo beat Danish qualifier Rasmus
Nielsen 11-9, 11-5, 12-10, while France-based second seed Galifi needed
four games to overcome German qualifier Andre Haschker 9-11, 11-3,
13-11, 11-5.
There were no surprises in the first round of the women's WISPA World
Tour 4 event in which Swiss interest is led by top seed Gaby Huber, the
former Gaby Schmohl who has a bye into the last eight.
France's Coline Aumard denied local favourite Agapi Kazamia a place in
her first WISPA Tour quarter-final when the third seed beat 19-year-old
from Luzern 11-7, 11-4, 11-5.
