- Some of Australia’s future squash stars are gaining invaluable advice this week from squash legend Sarah Fitz-Gerald, who is in Brisbane for a week’s intensive training.

Multiple world champion Fitz-Gerald, who was recently inducted as Legend in the Squash Australia Hall of Fame, has joined the Australian Institute of Sport at the University of Queensland for the week-long session.

Australian head coach Byron Davis said that Fitz-Gerald would also be used as a coaching consultant in the future to ensure her vast knowledge is passed on to the current crop of players.

All the current AIS players currently in Brisbane will be at the sessions, along with some of the members of the junior talent squads, such as Brisbane’s Jessica Turnbull and Laidley’s Natalie Newton.

“It’s a great chance for some of our younger athletes to work with one of the greatest players Australia has ever produced,” Davis said.

“But it’s not just the younger players – Rachael Grinham (world number six) is here at the moment and she will also be working with Sarah.”

Fitz-Gerald has recently been coaching Indian number one Dipika Pallikal and has taken her to number 14 in the world.
