The "Social" Game
by Nick-At-Will

More than anything else, SQUASH is a "social" game!

Socializing is described as: Taking part in social activities and interacting with others.

What happens when you take the social interaction out of the game of squash!?

In these days of "Staying-at-home, social-distancing and wearing masks," that's exactly what's about to happen!

Playing, practicing and taking squash-lessons involves much more than just pounding a ball around on four walls!

With all the Coronavirus, Covid-19 restrictions about to take place in clubs, the social aspect of the game will be lost!

There will be no social travel in the air, train, bus, van or car-pools!

There will be no meeting of peers at hotels and motels!

There will be no get-together breakfasts, lunches or dinners!

There will be no player, parent and/or coach interaction or socializing!

There will be no player/spectator interaction!

There would be no club restaurant or bar social interaction and camaraderie.

No...all the squash social interaction will again...be lost!

So what will be left!? Just two people walking straight into a club ready to play...with no bags, no social interaction with desk help, other players or spectators, just hitting the ball cross-court (most of the time) to avoid (you guessed it) the all-important shaking of hands and social interaction!

While observing junior (especially) squash-tournaments, perhaps the greatest and most important "value" is with the kids socializing and interacting with each other, the parents, coaches, club managers and owners!

Does this sound like the game we're all used to playing!? We don't think so!

Much of the joy and camaraderie of our great game will be lost to the dreaded Coronavirus Covid-19!

We believe that until a Covid-19 Coronavirus vaccine is developed, (like for diphtheria, polio or the flu has) perhaps playing, practicing and taking squash-lessons should be postponed.
