It's 50-Up - & Another Title - For Corren! by Howard Harding
June 12, 2011-Indefatigable
Australian Mike Corren celebrated his 50th appearance in a PSA World
Tour squash event final at the Millicent Open today in Millicent - the
town where he was born - then successfully defended his title to pick
up the 35th trophy of his career.
In a remarkable run since May 2009,
the Sydney-based 37-year-old has reached the finals of all but five of
the 26 PSA Tour events in which he has competed.
Top seed Corren dropped just one
game in four rounds en-route to the final of the PSA Challenger 5 event
at the Millicent Squash Club before facing second-seeded compatriot Rex
Hedrick for the title.
And the Tour's most prolific
title-winner duly notched up his latest success with an 11-7, 11-8,
11-5 victory - then revealed that he will compete in next week's South
Australian Open before taking an extended break from the tour after
deciding to move to New Zealand for financial reasons.
He said winning his home town
tournament for the second year in succession made withdrawing from the
remainder of the Australian Squash Tour easier.
"I could not win another tournament
for the rest of the year and not give a toss after winning this one,"
he said. "I will still give it my all in Adelaide, but I'm actually
looking forward to a bit of a break."
