World Junior Champion Amanda Sobhy, Haley Mendez, To Play
Collegiately At Harvard

University women’s coach Mike Way has confirmed that defending
World Juniors champion Amanda Sobhy and her current US teammate Haley
Mendez will be attending Harvard in the fall and playing for the
Crimson.
Joining Sobhy and Mendez as incoming freshmen will be Julianne Chu and
Megan Murray. All four players are from the New York City area.
The Crimson finished second in the Ivy League last season, going 5-1 and
11-2 overall, and will be returning eleven players for the
2011-12 campaign.
Harvard Athletic Communications profiled the four incoming freshmen as follows:
Amanda Sobhy Sea Cliff, N.Y./North Shore
Won the 2010 Junior World Championship, becoming the first U.S. player
to capture the tournament … Ranked No. 1 in the U.S. and No. 20
in the Women's International Squash Players Association …
Four-time U.S. Junior national champion … Three-time U.S. Junior
Open Champion … Winner of the William T. Ketcham Award for Most
Improved Player … Winner of five WISPA tour titles ... Became
the youngest person to win four WISPA crowns … Winner of the
PanAmerican Championships team event … Was also a four-year
member of the soccer team, playing midfield … National Honor

Haley Mendez Brooklyn, N.Y./Packer Collegiate Institute
Three-time U.S. Nationals finalist and three-time member of U.S.
