July 16, 2012 - Chorley based England International and world number 3 squash player Laura Massaro took part in a ceremony at the David Lloyd Leisure Club which saw one of their latest glass back squash courts dedicated in her honour.

The current 28 year old British National Champion unveiled the plaque shortly after 2pm on Saturday which was presented by David Lloyd and England Squash & Racketball.

The English international started working as a receptionist in the club to help subsidise her travel costs as an up and coming junior ten years ago before reaping the benefits of complementary membership as a full time professional and one of the world’s best players.

The members were treated to a fascinating match-up between local junior players and David Lloyd Club Members in an exciting points based squash challenge. Members were also given the opportunity to take on Laura on the newly named court.

Laura commented, “I am very grateful for the support that David Lloyd have provided me throughout my career over the past ten years.  It is a real honour to have a court named after me here in my home town.”

Steve Brodie, David Lloyd Sports Manager added, “We are so proud to have a world class athlete training at our facility and we wanted to recognise the achievements of Laura by naming the court after her. We hope she inspires the next generation of squash players and we look forward to supporting her for the rest of her career.”

Laura regularly trains at the David Lloyd Centre and can now add will add this achievement to her long list of recent awards.  She is the 2011 Women’s Squash Association (WSA) ‘Player of the Year’, 2011 US Open Champion, a Commonwealth Silver Medallist and has won consecutive British National Championships in 2011 and 2012.
