Brown Coach Stuart LeGassick On The NCAA Emerging Sports Decision

- Brown University Director of Squash Stuart LeGassick commented to DailySquashReport.com on the recent NCAA decision to eliminate women’s squash from its “emerging sports” category, a move some see as potentially damaging.

“The NCAA dropping squash has not affected the varsity programs at Brown in any way. I doubt it will affect any men's or women's programs, frankly. The women's programs had to show the NCAA more growth (ie more teams) and at less than 1 club team per year over the last 14 years, college squash was not showing the growth that the NCAA needed.  Rowing and other women's sports have far greater numbers of athletes involved, and many athletic departments liked that in order to help their Title IX balance of male and female athletes.”
