Yesterday's First Round Matches special to
DailySquashReport.com
July 20, 2011 - Spent 13 hours at the courts today ....no real predictions for tomorrow's matches...
1st Round Match Evaluations:
Abbey Foster lost 3-1 to Chloe
Pearson from England. Abbey tried her hardest and was in a very
winnable match but in the end Chloe managed to pull away in the fourth.
Abbey will gain a lot of great experience from this match that will go
a long way toward helping her continue to improve throughout the
tournament.
Hollie Naughton overpowered and
outperformed Laura Kutsch from Germany to win her first round 3-0
convincingly. She then went on to play Nouran El Torky of Egypt,
where Hollie fought hard and was right in the match but El Torky snuck
away at the end of each game.
Michelle Gemmell played a
terrific fist game against 9/16 seed Yan Xin Tan from Malaysia.
Michelle hit penetrating length, did not let a volley go and then used
her deception at the front to tour the Malaysian around. But as
Michelle began to tire, she volleyed less and was stuck in the back of
the court, allowing Yan Xin Tan to step up and use her terrific
backhand volley drop and offensive boast to win the second, third
and fourth games.
Danielle Letourneau really
found her length and used her strong volleys to keep Lume Landman from
South Africa running around. One of the highlights of the match was
Danielle hitting 5 ACE serves in a row to start off the third game!
Lume played great squash to get herself back into the match but
Danielle managed to close out the game 12-10 to win 3-0.
