Chucktown Squash is a nonprofit organization that seeks to drive
academic improvement, positive personal development and a healthy
lifestyle to Charleston’s underserved youth using the sport of
squash.
Through participation in our on- and off-court curriculum, young people
will access life-changing opportunities in which they can excel as
scholar athletes and community members.
Chucktown Squash seeks a part-time Program Manager to oversee the
day-to-day activities of its program. The Program Manager will
assist the executive director to build and implement daily squash and
academic sessions as well as plan and implement a rigorous calendar of
community service projects
and other enrichment opportunities; this person will meet regularly
with team members, their families, volunteers and partners; and work
closely with the Executive Director in promoting the long-term vision
and mission of the organization.
Job responsibilities:
• Assist in the design of the squash and fitness curriculum, to include squash skill building,
competitive matchplay, and lessons in sportsmanship and teambuilding
• Assist in the design of the academic enrichment curriculum, to include homework help and
additional enrichment activities
• Design other monthly enrichment opportunities (field trips, community service, tournament
match play)
• Assist in recruiting and leading volunteers on-court and in-the-classroom to work with students
• Lead daily program sessions for Chucktown Squash participants (up to 20 5th, 6th and 7th graders)
• Assist the Executive Director in developing and maintaining relationships with facility and school
partners
• Work with parents to coordinate regular parent involvement and maintain relationships
• Coordinate and chaperone student transportation to and from school for program sessions,
including van driving (training provided); coordinate daily snacks
• Track and evaluate program data (attendance, utilization, fitness/skills tests grades, standardized
test scores, behavioral reports)
• Working hours: Monday – Thursday, 1pm – 6pm; Saturdays, 12pm – 5pm; Summer hours more
flexible than school year hours
Qualifications: Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and some work experience. Other criteria
include:
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Experience working with youth
• Some squash and/or knowledge of athletics and fitness
